She radiates with positivity and zeal. Her invigorating character is undeniable and her happy-go-lucky attitude is contagious. Filled with a grateful spirit, she views life through filtered lenses. Despite her struggles, she remains resolute in optimism, choosing to persevere in the face of adversity.
As I stepped off the elevator, I could hear them whispering. Someone was crying but I couldn’t make out her voice. As I got a little closer, I heard the other woman say, “We need to find that witch her broom.” Laughter erupted as I walked past them and I could see little miss sunshine handing Victoria a napkin to wipe away her tears.
I wondered what little miss sunshine’s story was; I just couldn’t figure her out. She never seemed to have a bad day and she took ownership in making other people feel better about themselves. It was nice but a little weird too. She worked as an Administrative Coordinator, which often entailed ordering lunch, cleaning up after events, or validating parking passes. One day her boss had the audacity to ask her to take her rent check to the mailbox.
Somewhat accomplished academically, I could never understand why she stayed or how she smiled through all the BS. A few weeks passed and it was more of the same, people crying about their problems and shero to the rescue. The workweek was ending and just before the staff logged off we received an email stating that little miss sunshine was leaving the organization. Surprisingly, she only gave one week’s notice.
Her positivity was always a mystery but not anymore. As they continued to give her belittling tasks and express their blatant lack of confidence in her skill set and abilities, she was building a multi-million dollar empire. Unbeknownst to them, they were doing her a favor. On her last day, she only came into the office to collect her belongings. Before she bid us all adieu, she gave us small trinkets attached to a note that read, “When life hands you sour mix, make a cocktail”….best wishes, the Optimist.
Energy: Robust and energizing with hints of lemon and a pleasant spearmint finish.
