4 Teas for Clear, Radiant Skin

Drinking tea is a simple, inexpensive, and effective way to show yourself a lot of TLC. Naturally fortified with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidant properties, tea offers many great health benefits – inside and out. For thousands of years, tea has been used to remedy the common cold, flu, insomnia etc. but scientist have discovered that it also provides great wellness benefits. It rehydrates the body, promotes heart health, helps with weight-loss, strengthens the function of memory cells in the brain, is comprised of anti-cancer properties and works wonders for the skin.

Made with water, the most essential part of any healthy skin care regimen, teas can be brewed for ingesting, applied topically, or used as extracts. With countless options on the market, deciding which tea to purchase can be pretty confusing. Below are my four recommendations – besides the widely popular green tea – to help keep your skin blemish free and glowing.

CHAMOMILE

Known to promote relaxation and sleep, chamomile is a popular choice for those who seek proper beautyrest. Additionally, clinical studies have shown that chamomile is comprised of azulene, a volatile oil that serves as a potent anti-inflammatory which can help to calm red, irritated skin. Also made up of quercetin, chamomile helps to protect the skin from sun damage.

Candid Tip: Refrigerate used tea bags and use them to minimize dark circles and puffiness

ROOIBOS

Easily one of my favorites, this tea is nature’s best kept beauty secret – in my opinion. This herbal tea contains zinc, which is used to combat zits, treat aging skin, and speed wound healing. Rooibos is comprised of a high amount of antioxidants which help to protect the skin from free radicals. Additionally, it naturally contains alpha hydroxy acid, which is used in professional chemical peels to even skin tone, smooth skin texture, brighten the complexion, remove dead skin cells, and improve the appearance of blemishes.

Candid Tip: Makes a great skin refresher spray

BLACK

This tea is rich in essential antioxidants which accelerate the process of skin regeneration and protect the skin from harmful environmental elements, thus providing protection against skin irritations. Loaded with vitamins B2, C and E, minerals such as magnesium, potassium and zinc, black tea also helps in reducing mimic wrinkles, preventing premature aging, and pimples.

Candid Tip: Works wonderfully as a facial tea rinse

OOLONG

A natural and effective treatment for atopic dermatitis, the consumption of oolong tea has been shown to improve this chronic skin condition. The high levels of antioxidants found in oolong tea, slows down the oxidation of cells, which in turn slows down the aging process. Lastly, the antioxidants present in oolong tea diminishes wrinkles, improves the tone and elasticity of the skin, and reduces dark spots, thus providing a more youthful appearance.

Candid Tip: Works as a great detox tea, ridding the body of toxins

Beautiful skin starts from within. Have you incorporated tea into your skincare routine or wellness regimen? If so, what are some of your favorite ways to use it?
